Manchester United’s captain suffered knee ligament damage in the loss away to Sunderland this season and was ruled out for up to two months in January.
However, in a positive update van Gaal indicates Rooney may well be back earlier than first anticipated.
He said: “No, he does not need an operation. He may be back in March.”
It was only a couple of weeks ago when it was suggested he’d be out for up to two months, so coming back before the end of March would be just shy of six weeks.
To be completely honest, I’m not missing Rooney. He was bang in form when he got injured and that was a cruel blow but Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial‘s prominence in front of goal means I don’t think we’re desperate for him to return, so much so that I feel we’d have lost to Arsenal had Rooney been fit and playing instead of Rashford.
We’ll see how Rooney’s recovery develops but one thing is for sure, he hasn’t been ruled out of England’s Euro 2016 squad just yet.
