The 23-year-old striker was taken off having only come on ten minutes prior last Monday after hurting his groin while taking a shot.
It was a sad sight to see Keane limp off the pitch and van Gaal has now confirmed it is a hammer blow for the young English striker as he’ll once again have to undergo surgery.
Speaking at his Watford press conference, van Gaal said: “I have Rooney, I have Martial, I have Rashford, I had Will Keane but Keane is injured and will be operated on. When I have more players, I will rotate.”
That’s truly devastating news for Keane. He’s had the most rotten luck with injuries over the last two years, had worked his way through the U21s this season, re-found his goalscoring touch and was finally breaking through into the first-team – only to have that chance taken away from him.
Having suffered the same cruel fate back in 2012, Keane must be really downbeat about this surgery but we can just hope it’s nothing more than a minor operation and that he’ll be back to full fitness in no time.
