Manchester United’s players were understandably brimming with delight after they recorded a fourth successive win against Watford on Wednesday, winning 1-0.
It was an all too familiar start for van Gaal’s side at Old Trafford, who looked tentative and flimsy in the opening stages. The second half, however, was characterised by the home side going for the jugular.
And Man United’s persistence paid off in the 83rd minute, as Juan Mata‘s excellent free-kick saw van Gaal avoid another ignominious 0-0 draw. Goalscorer Mata, alongside Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Morgan Schneiderlin, took to social media to express their joy at tonight’s vital result.

Almost out of nowhere, United, deemed as outsiders for a top four place, are level on points with Manchester City – a side supposedly still in the title race.
In a league where nobody appears capable of pulling away, how far van Gaal’s side can go is anybody’s guess. Winning streaks in an unpredictable season can be vital, and United’s trip to West Brom on Sunday acts as a fantastic opportunity for consolidating some momentum whilst others falter.
