Schweinsteiger has been struggling with a knee injury in recent weeks and he has not played for Man United since the FA Cup win over Sheffield United in January.
“He is also coming back in March,” van Gaal said.
“Valencia is coming back and training with the first team, as is Fellaini. Jones shall train with the first team next week and Schweinsteiger may do this also. They are coming back, but they then have to be fit to play.”
Schweinsteiger had enjoyed a solid start to his United career following his move from Bayern Munich in the summer but the lengthy absence through injury has been disappointing.
As the German enters the twilight of his career, it may be best that Schweinsteiger picks and chooses his moments to play. Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes did similar towards the end of their time at United and it ended up prolonging their time at the club.
