Marouane Fellaini, Antonio Valencia and Phil Jones coming back from injury

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has revealed that Marouane Fellaini, Antonio Valencia and Phil Jones are close to returning from injury.

However, van Gaal insisted that the trio will have to prove their fitness in the U21s before coming back into the first team.

Fellaini has been struggling with a hamstring injury, Valencia has been recovering from surgery on a foot complaint and Jones picked up a ankle sprain last month. Van Gaal insisted the three players are on their way back:

United haven’t missed the trio too much, as the likes of Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Marcus Rashford and Guillermo Varela have impressed after making the step up in recent weeks.

Time is running out for Jones, in particular, as he bids to prove his long-term fitness at Old Trafford. The Englishman has been sidelined far too often over the course of his United career and patience may wear thin if he gets injured again.
