Martial moved up top following Juan Mata’s early dismissal and the Frenchman was a constant thorn in West Brom’s side.
He was Man United’s most dangerous player but being a man down meant Martial was often isolated when he did get the ball. United supporters praised Martial but expressed their frustration at the lack of help he received:
Martial is a class act but not when he's standing upfront being marked by 4 players fs. #MUFC

Martial has still looked like he'll take on the whole West Brom team though. What a talent.

This will undoubtedly be a season to forget for United supporters but the performances of Martial have given cause for optimism.
However, it is difficult to look past the result against West Brom, with United’s ambitions of finishing in the top four of the Premier League given a setback.
United take on Liverpool in the Europa League on Thursday and the competition looks like the only way that van Gaal’s side will secure Champions League football next season, although winning it will be a tall order.
