Daley Blind has insisted that Manchester United can still finish in the top four of the Premier League this season.
Man United suffered a 1-0 defeat against West Bromwich Albion last time out, leaving them sixth in the Premier League, three points behind fourth-placed Manchester City, who have a game in hand.
It was a missed opportunity for Louis van Gaal’s side as the likes of City and Arsenal have been in poor form recently. However, Blind believes United are capable of finishing the campaign “strongly”.
“It’s not out of reach. Still, anything is possible and the league is very close in terms of the table,” Blind said.
“But I think every game is unique in itself, especially if you play in the FA Cup, the Europa League and the Premier League. We have to move on game by game and not look too far forward. Especially, we need to look to ourselves and go from there.
“A couple of times this season we could make the step up but lost some points. That’s a pity and we have to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
“We are still in the race for a trophy and the top four. We can finish strongly and I have a lot of faith in us doing that.”
United simply have not been good enough this season; defeats against teams such as West Brom, Norwich City, Bournemouth and Stoke City have been their undoing this term.
Save for a spectacular capitulation from City or Arsenal, United should forget about a top four finish. Winning the Europa League, starting with the tie against Liverpool on Thursday, looks to be their only chance of qualifying for the Champions League.
