Timothy Fosu-Mensah is ineligible for Manchester United’s Europa League clash against Liverpool on Thursday.
The 18-year-old Dutch defender was not included on the original A-list squad which was submitted to UEFA and as he hasn’t been at the club for two or more years, he cannot be added to the B-list.
For Man United, it’s a blow because Daley Blind‘s questionable fitness might see him rested on Thursday and I think Fosu-Mensah would have been the perfect player to start alongside Chris Smalling at the heart of defence.
His impressive debut against Watford where he went ton to play very well after a shaky start and a yellow card showed me he is ready for the pressures of first-team football, and it’s not something I’m very surprised by.
At U18s, U19s and U21s level football, Fosu-Mensah has always stood out among his peers as somebody who is ready for the next step up. There are some youngsters who give you the impression they are able to cope with that big step up to the first-team and Timothy is one of those.
Moving forward, Fosu-Mensah has got a bright future at United and it’s excellent to see just how much progress he has made over the last 18 months.
