It doesn’t get any bigger for Manchester United than away at Anfield, unless they are under the floodlights in our first ever European encounter in 195 games.
Unfortunately, we’re heading into tonight’s crunch tie off the back of a dismal 1-0 defeat to West Brom which successfully killed the momentum we built up with four consecutive wins, including an excellent 3-2 victory over Arsenal.
With so much at stake tonight, United’s players will be feeling the pressure but one person who never seems to be affected by it is Anthony Martial and we’ll need him firing on all cylinders against Liverpool. Thankfully, he seems to be over his injury concerns and trained with the team ahead of the match:
Martial’s goal against Liverpool on his debut is without doubt one of the best moments of the season so far. Not only did it show his qualities as a player but also showed he can more than cope with the pressures of a game against the bin dippers and we need that at Anfield tonight.
It’s going to be one of the most hostile atmospheres we’ll have played in in some time and not all of our players, Martial included, will be used to that but we need to come away from Anfield with, at the very least, an away goal. Anything less than that and we’re making it extremely difficult for ourselves heading into the second tie.
Will Martial be the man to provide that spark up front? He certainly has been for large parts of the season so far and alongside the equally as exciting Marcus Rashford, United should pose some real threat to Liverpool’s defence if we play it right.
