Damien Duff believes Jose Mourinho is the perfect manager for Manchester United

Damien Duff believes Jose Mourinho is the perfect man to replace Louis van Gaal as Manchester United manager.

Duff won two Premier League titles under Mourinho during the manager’s first spell in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer and is reportedly confident of landing the Man United role. Duff insisted that a big statement is needed from Man United after Manchester City confirmed that Pep Guardiola will join them earlier this season.

When asked if Mourinho is the right man for United, Duff said: “I think so. I think he’s the only man for the job.

“I think after Guardiola signing with City, Manchester (United) have to come out and make a massive statement. There’s no bigger than that. I wouldn’t say they are guaranteed trophies, but knowing the way they work from my time at Melbourne — they’re obviously a sister club — I could see them steamrolling teams to be fair. City, that is.”

Van Gaal is clearly the wrong man to lead United and appointing the inexperienced Ryan Giggs in the role would be too much of a gamble.

With Guardiola going to City, there is simply no other man for the job than Mourinho. There are reservations over his character but the Portuguese is a proven, world-class manager with a host of trophies under his belt.
