David de Gea put in an excellent display on an otherwise disappointing evening for Manchester United as they were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool in the Europa League on Thursday.
Man United were awful at Anfield but the result could have been much worse were it not for De Gea’s heroics.
The Spaniard denied Philippe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana over the course of the evening and he was easily United’s Man of the Match. United fans were full of praise for De Gea:
Without De Gea, United would be down 3 or 4 to Liverpool. No intensity whatsoever. #MUFC

David De Gea's that good, he'd have kept Villa up. Easily the number one playing in the Prem.

You have to feel bad for De Gea this season; the keeper has consistently put in world-class performances but his teammates have consistently let him down.
De Gea almost single-handedly dragged United into the top four last term but the side’s free fall has been so drastic this time around that it is unlikely he will repeat the feat.
It is a wonder where United would be without De Gea and it would be hard to begrudge him a move in the summer.
