Jordan Henderson has warned his Liverpool teammates that their Europa League job is only half-done following the 2-0 win over Manchester United on Thursday.
Liverpool deservedly beat Man United at Anfield thanks to goals from Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino.
It was a demoralising defeat for United, who have been in poor form for the majority of the campaign, but Henderson believes Liverpool cannot rest on their laurels.
“It is only half the job done. Anything can happen in football and I have seen stranger things happen,” Henderson said.
“It is only half-time so we have to make sure in the second half at Old Trafford we play like that again because it will be very difficult.”
United will need to improve immensely if they are to overcome Liverpool in the second leg.
Liverpool could have quite easily beat United by four or five on Thursday were it not for the heroics of David de Gea. Unfortunately, it’s hard to imagine United turning things around and the blame for that has to lie at the feet of Louis van Gaal.
