Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing of Matthew Olosunde.
The 18-year-old previously played for New York Red Bulls but has now been added to Man United’s U18s squad having been granted international clearance.
Olosunde quit the New York Red Bulls to go to college but has now joined United and ventured back into football.
Over the years we have only had four American players at United including Tim Howard and Jonathan Spector, so Olosunde becomes the fifth signing from USA.
Speaking about Olosunde, Duke University head coach John Kerr, under whom he played, recently said: “Matthew is a fantastic player who is comfortable playing in the back or in midfield. He has wicked pace and has incredible defensive recovery speed.
“He has great one vs one instincts on both sides of the ball and will help us right away in a number of positions.”
When it comes to our academy, some of our best graduates in recent years have been brought in from around the world so it’s good to see the club continuing to bring in players from around the world.
