Bologna striker Mattia Destro has revealed he’d like to join Manchester United if Jose Mourinho took over and came calling for him.
Destro, 24, was part of Inter Milan’s youth set-up whilst Mourinho was in charge there and although he never made his debut under the Portuguese manager, he is entertaining the idea of joining him at Old Trafford.
Speaking about his time at Inter Milan, Destro said: “To be able to train with champions and with a coach like Mourinho made me mature and prepared me to make a giant step into real football.
“If he called me to Man United? I’d like to see myself in that situation.”
With eight goals this season for Bologna, Destro is not extremely prolific at this point in his career but it’s more the fact he would be willing to come to United specifically to work with Mourinho.
That’s something Mourinho would bring to the table at United – top players around the world would want to join the club just to work with him. For all his considered flaws, his record speaks for itself and players want to be a part of that.
At this moment in time nothing is concrete and absolutely confirmed that Mourinho will replace Louis van Gaal in the summer but I’d be extremely surprised at this point to see anybody else in the Old Trafford dugout come the start of the 2016/17 season.
