Bastian Schweinsteiger had such an impact when he came off the bench against West Ham United this weekend that I don’t think he can be left out of the starting XI on Thursday when Liverpool visit Old Trafford.
The German midfielder might not yet be fit enough to complete a full 90 minutes but the start is where we will win or lose the game against Liverpool. An early goal and Old Trafford will be electric, so that’s surely what we’ve got to set out and do.
It’s been a long time since Schweinsteiger started for Man United and his cameo at the weekend showed me how much we’ve missed him, so seeing him all smiles in training is certainly a good thing.
If we’re going to have any chance of overcoming a 2-0 deficit and beat Liverpool, we’ll need leaders everywhere on the pitch and none more so than Schweinsteiger.
He’s scored some crucial goals for us this season – Watford away for example – so maybe Bastian can come up with one at Old Trafford on Thursday night? I certainly hope so.
