Van Gaal says Schweinsteiger, Young and Valencia won’t start against Liverpool

Louis van Gaal has said Bastian Schweinsteiger, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young are all not fit enough to start against Liverpool.

Man United have a mountain to climb after coming away from Anfield with a 2-0 loss and our inconsistent form has certainly made us the underdogs to go through.

Schweinsteiger’s influential cameo at the weekend against West Ham saw calls for him to come into the starting XI against Liverpool but that won’t be the case.

I actually think bringing Schweinsteiger off the bench for the last 20 or 30 minutes is actually the best way we can use him at the moment, so it’s not too much of a blow that he isn’t fit enough to start.

As for Young and Valencia, it’s not a surprise neither are fit yet seeing as they’ve only recently returned to training.

United need to show a lot more passion and commitment than they did at Anfield if we are to knock Liverpool out of the Europa League. However, performances like the 3-2 win over Arsenal showed that we’re capable of some top performances on our day and fans are certainly hoping that we can play like that against Liverpool.
