Manchester United legend Denis Law believes Wayne Rooney’s return to fitness will be a big boost for the side ahead of the final part of the season.
Rooney has been sidelined for a number of weeks having sustained ligament damage to his ankle in February.
The 30-year-old should be back this month after he was pictured without a supportive brace in recent weeks. Law is hopeful that Rooney will soon return to action.
”When Wayne joined Manchester United – and I said it at the time – if he stays away from injury he will break all records. He is important to the club – as are all of the players regardless of their position – but because he is a striker he is reliant on other people like the midfielders and the wingers giving him the ball.
“Looking back on my own career I was really lucky to be playing alongside two of the greatest players in the world in Bobby Charlton and George Best. That made it easier for me.”
Rooney suffered an awful 2015 in terms of his performances but he was one of United’s standout players at the turn of the year prior to his injury.
Rooney’s merits as a first team player will be debated endlessly but no-one can doubt his considerable experience and knowhow. His return will be a big boost for Louis van Gaal and United ahead of what is a crucial period in their season.
