Ryan Giggs believes Manchester United have a “great chance” of finishing in the top four of the Premier League if they beat Manchester City in the derby on Sunday.
Man United currently sit sixth in the table, four points behind City, who occupy fourth spot.
Neither side are in particularly good form heading into the match but Giggs backed United to steal a march on the top four if they see off their ‘noisy neighbours’ on Sunday.
“If we win, then we have a great chance of reaching that top four. If we don’t, then it will be very difficult for us,” Giggs said.
“Again, it’s a challenge. You’re going to your neighbours, you’re going to your local rivals. You’re a good team and you’re trying to win and trying to get further up the table. If I was playing, I’d be looking forward to this week. Two brilliant games – Liverpool at home and then City away. It’s a brilliant week to look forward to.”
A win against City would normally act as a springboard for United but they have been so wildly inconsistent this term that it is anybody’s guess if they could push on following a victory.
There hasn’t even been any evidence recently to suggest that United could get a positive result out of City. Unfortunately, United simply haven’t been good enough this season and talk of finishing in the top four looks more foolish after every defeat.
