Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany has been ruled out of Sunday’s derby against Manchester United after picking up a calf injury in his side’s Champions League clash against Dynamo Kiev this week.

Kompany hobbled off after just seven minutes of the 0-0 draw against Kiev after a reoccurrence of the injury.

It is the 14th time in his City career that he has been troubled by his calf and the third occasion this season. He is set to be sidelined for at least four weeks.

The news will come as a boost to Man United as Nicolas Otamendi also had to come off early following a dead leg.

United have had to contend with plenty of injuries of their own but they have seen the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Ashley Young and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson return in recent weeks.

Both teams are in poor form heading into the derby but the form book usually goes out the window when it comes to these games. It will be interesting to see how each side lines up at Old Trafford.
