The 20-year-old ran Man City’s defence into the ground all afternoon with some sensational footwork and panache on the ball. Deployed on the left, Martial, accompanied by Marcus Rashford and Marcos Rojo, spearheaded the assault on City’s right hand side all game to great effect.
Man United fans were quick to laud the youngster’s performance:
The criticism of Martial absolutely baffles me. He's been the standout in almost every game United have played. It's those around him.

Big fan of Lingard and Martial giving it to the city players. Go on. They know what the Derbys all about.

He may not get the headlines after today’s victory, but Martial’s supreme class on the ball was integral to United’s impressive win. City’s right hand side barely influenced the game until the final 10 minutes, and that largely came down to the Frenchman’s insatiable appetite for pinning defences back.
This was most noticeable in the second half. City, needing a win to maintain any title aspirations, had to produce a blockbuster second half. But Martial had other ideas. His divine control and link-up play thwarted City’s attacking onslaught, since they had to deal with an onslaught of their own.
With an international break approaching, United fans will be hoping Martial, above anyone else in the squad, stays fit ahead of an important month.
