Michael Carrick has described Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday as “more than three points”.
Man United secured a huge win in the race to finish in the top four of the Premier League thanks to Marcus Rashford’s winner.
Carrick praised Rashford and insisted that the victory will give United “momentum” heading into the final part of the campaign.
“It was a good first half, a great goal from Marcus, an unbelievable finish,” Carrick said.
“It has been a tough week. there were bodies cramping out there. It was a great result and a good way to bounce back from Thursday night. It is more than three points, as it was a must win today. It gives us a real boost, something to go at and momentum for the final stages of the season.”
The win against City lifted United to within one point of their ‘noisy neighbours’, who remain fourth in the table.
City were poor at the Etihad, with Wilfried Bony, Martin Demichelis and Yaya Toure all putting in subpar performances. With Vincent Kompany already out and Joe Hart picking up an injury against United, Louis van Gaal’s side have a real chance of sneaking into fourth spot.
