The youngster scored the only goal of the game as Louis van Gaal‘s side beat Manchester City 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Rashford has now scored five goals in his first eight games for Man United, helping them close the gap on the teams above them in the Premier League. However, Mata believes that supporters must be patient with the 18-year-old as he gets used to first team affairs.
“In the first half the game was even but after good play, Marcus showed again that he is a great player in the making,” Mata wrote in his blog.
“We all believe in him although we must remember that he’s still very young and he’s just arrived in the first team.”
Mata is absolutely right in saying that patience is key with Rashford. His goal against City reminded the footballing world of his talents but he had drawn a blank in a number of games prior to the clash at the Etihad.
That being said, he has started his career at United brilliantly and it is hard not to get too carried away with the romanticism of a young Mancunian flourishing in the first team.
