Manchester United’s players were understandably brimming with joy after a fantastic 1-0 win away to Manchester City on Sunday.
Following a miserable few weeks, Louis van Gaal‘s side stunned everyone by pulling out an exceptional performance against their local rivals.
Man United absorbed some early pressure from the home side before Marcus Rashford produced a moment of sublime talent to net the winning goal after 16 minutes. After the game, several players took to social media to express their delight after such an important result.

Time will dictate how significant this victory is in the context of United’s season. But given that this was United’s – and perhaps Louis van Gaal‘s – final chance to record a memorable win against a rival, the instant impact, whether it be amongst fans or players, is seismic.
Nobody expected United to give such a complete performance: the back four, woefully immobile in recent weeks, dealt with anything that came its way; the midfield, plagued by van Gaal’s negative system and, well, Marouane Fellaini, was marshalled by Morgan Schneiderlin; and the attacking triumvirate of Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard didn’t give the home side’s back four – and especially Martin Demichelis – a moment’s peace.
