Manchester United fans had been calling for Morgan Schneiderlin to be brought back into the starting XI and his performance against Man City at the Etihad showed exactly why.
He had Yaya Toure and Fernando in his pocket for the whole first half. They really posed very little threat to our defence because Schneiderlin was dominant and the Frenchman offered plenty going forward as well, with his cheeky back heel to Marcus Rashford prior to Martin Demichelis barging him over being a real sign of his confidence.
Over the 90 minutes Schneiderlin completed 93% of his passes and having that sort of assured midfielder play is something we’ve desperately missed when Michael Carrick lined up alongside Marouane Fellaini in our recent games.

Something which Schneiderlin did was bring out the best in Carrick as well because he was far better against City than in recent performances versus Liverpool. Their midfield partnership really complimented each other.
There’s no logical reason why Schneiderlin hasn’t been in our starting XI every single week and today’s game against City proved to fans, not for the first time, that he has to be one of the first names on the team-sheet.
Well done to Morgan for keeping his head despite the disappointment of being left out in the last few games. Prior to him joining United he was one of the best defensive midfielders in the league and he showed that he can be just as good for United if given a consistent run of games.
