Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry believes that Louis van Gaal deserves credit for bringing through a number of youngsters at Manchester United this season.
Van Gaal has come under huge pressure this term following a string of poor performances and results at Old Trafford.
However, van Gaal has shown faith in the likes of Marcus Rashford, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson this term and they have all impressed. Henry praised van Gaal’s willingness to give youth a chance.
“If LVG leaves this summer and a new manager takes over, those youngsters might not get the same chances next season,” Henry wrote in his Sun column.
“But they have already shown they are good enough to play at the highest level and United will not want to squander all the time and effort their academy has spent nurturing this talent.”
Van Gaal has taken his fair share of flak this season, and rightly so, but the way he has handled young players at United has been nothing short of exemplary and he has undoubtedly laid the foundations for future success.
However, it is hard to look past some of the performances that United have put in this season. For all of van Gaal’s good work, it is clear that he is not the right man to take the club forward.
