Memphis has been in and out of the side at Old Trafford this term having failed to find any consistency since his summer move from PSV Eindhoven.
The youngster joined up with the Netherlands squad this week ahead of their upcoming friendlies against France and England.
“(For Netherlands) the coach [Danny Blind] gives me a lot of confidence and I’m very grateful for that. That’s important for young boys,” Memphis said.
“The coach knows my qualities and know that I can come in handy at any World Cup.”
When asked if he receives the same confidence at Man United, Memphis replied: “Sometimes. There are people inside the club with whom I talk about this.
“Also with the coach [van Gaal]. Furthermore, I do not want to lose it. My focus now lies with the Dutch team. Two good matches are coming and I am really happy that I can be in there.”
It is clear for all to see that Memphis is a talent; when he does turn it on, he is the sort of player who gets supporters off their seats.
However, those moments have not come often enough this season. At a club such as United, where excellence is demanded in every single game, Memphis has not delivered on a consistent basis. The hope is that he will be afforded patience as he looks to find his feet in the Premier League in the coming months.
