Felipe Anderson confirms confirms Manchester United made an offer last year

Lazio’s Felipe Anderson has confirmed Manchester United made an offer for him last year but said the club rejected the approach.

The Brazilian playmaker has been continuously linked with a move to Old Trafford since last season, when the Italian club rejected an inquiry from Man United into the his availability.

Anderson’s agent Julianna Gomes recently rejected claims suggesting that both clubs had held talks over the 22-year-old’s future and now speaking on the topic, the Brazilian insists he’s focused on playing well at Lazio this season.

“My goal is to do well with Lazio and the Brazil Olympic team, I’m not thinking about anything else.” Anderson said.

“I want to finish the season well, and I want to show my potential so I can be called-up.

“Manchester United? An offer came in last year, Lazio have confirmed that’s the case too. They preferred to keep me though, to have a great season.

“Unfortunately we were unable to repeat our achievements of last year, but we’re continuing to work hard, we’ll see what the future holds.”

The 22-year-old is a bit of an all round player, a multi-functional one as Louis van Gaal likes to say, and can operate across all of the front positions which probably goes some way towards explaining why van Gaal was interested in him.

But whatever United’s offer was, it wasn’t enough for Lazio to let him go. Whether or not we follow up on that interest probably depends a lot on whether van Gaal is in the job come the summer, which I doubt he will be, and it might be the case that Anderson becomes just another player in the long list of those who are heavily linked but never end up joining.
