Jesse Lingard has revealed that he is always looking to be “confident” amid the pressures of playing for Manchester United.
Lingard has been given an important role in the first team under Louis van Gaal this season and the 23-year-old has grabbed his chance, putting in a number of encouraging performances.
Most recently, Lingard played a big part in the No.10 position as Man United secured a 1-0 win over Manchester City last weekend. The forward opened up about the pressure of being a first team member at the club.
“I’m still young, still improving and still learning the game but I’ve got to practise and train and put that to use when it comes to matches,” Lingard said.
“To be starting week in and week out at Manchester United is massive. It comes with a lot of pressure but you’ve got to cope with that. You’ve got to be confident, always, on and off the pitch. But not in the arrogant way.”
While Lingard isn’t the most creative or incisive player, his intelligence on the pitch often gives him an edge over opponents.
He is a late bloomer as far as his development is concerned but there is no reason why he can’t kick on and establish himself at United having taken all the pressure that has come his way in his stride.
