Anthony Martial: I laugh when Louis van Gaal shouts at me

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United’s Anthony Martial has revealed that he laughs when Louis van Gaal shouts at him because he believes a tough approach will improve him as a player.

Martial has enjoyed a remarkable campaign since his move from Monaco in the summer, scoring 12 goals in all competitions.

There were eyebrows raised when Man United decided to pay an initial £36m for the youngster but he has blown all expectations of him out of the water. Despite his good form, Martial admitted that van Gaal is still expecting more of him.

“He yells at me,” Martial said.

“It makes me laugh because I know it’s for my own good.”

Martial is already a superb talent despite his tender age. He has arguably been United’s player of the season along with David de Gea and Chris Smalling.

Van Gaal has taken his fair share of flak over the course of the campaign, and rightly so, but he deserves huge credit for recognising Martial’s talent and bringing him to the club.
