Anthony Martial makes it clear he won’t leave Man United this summer

Anthony Martial has made it clear he has no intention of leaving Manchester United this summer and wants to help steer the club to bigger successes next season.

The 20-year-old Frenchman’s debut season at Man United is undoubtedly one of the highlights in a massively inconsistent season under Louis van Gaal and has certainly gone beyond expectations after his move from Monaco, regardless of what his price tag was.

With so much at United currently up in the air, underlying concerns existed over Martial’s future but he has now quashed any growing murmurings, insisting he wants to do more next season.

“I think I could have done better, there were some chances that I missed but I think next year it will be much better,” he said.

“For sure this year things have been difficult. We didn’t qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League, we are currently fifth. I hope that we will be able to win our next seven games and come back into the race for fourth.”

When asked if he would quit United for Paris St Germain in the summer, Martial added: “They are not at the top of the top [Manchester United, at the moment], but I hope that next year they will be.”

That’s exactly what I wanted to hear from Martial because he’s the player I’d love to see us build our team around in the next few years. In a few years he’s going to be one of the world’s best attackers, so we need to recognise that in giving him the best possible platform to excel.

What will happen in the future? We’ll see what happens when it we cross that hurdle. As a club, United should never be afraid of our best players leaving but it is what it is in modern football and we’ve got to accept that any player can leave for the right price. However, so long as we’ve got Martial, we’ve got to accommodate and let him shine.
