Michael Carrick wanted by Everton this summer – report

Everton are keen on signing Manchester United’s Michael Carrick on a free transfer this summer, according to the Mirror.

Carrick’s contract at Man United expires at the end of the campaign and he is yet to begin talks over a new deal.

The 34-year-old recently insisted that he is “relaxed” about the situation but Everton boss Roberto Martinez is hopeful of capitalising on the uncertainty.

Carrick has attracted some criticism for some subpar displays this term but the same could be said for the majority of his teammates.

Generally, when Carrick plays well, United play well, as demonstrated in the 1-0 win over Manchester City last time out.

Having served United with distinction since 2006, it would be a shame to see Carrick playing for another club, particularly one in the Premier League. His experience could prove invaluable to the younger players coming through and United should seriously consider keeping him on.
