Manchester United will have to make a bid in excess of £50m if they want to seal the transfer of Everton striker Romelu Lukaku this summer, according to reports.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a spectacular campaign, scoring 25 goals in 36 games across all competitions for Roberto Martinez’s side.
Lukaku’s father recently revealed that he thinks his son should join Man United or Bayern Munich and the player himself admitted that he may well leave Everton in the summer.
However, the recent takeover at Everton has given them leverage in terms of negotiations as they have no financial need to sell Lukaku.
The club are said to be determined to keep the player, even if they receive offers upwards of £50m.
Everton have showed in the past that they are tough negotiators as Chelsea’s failed pursuit of John Stones last summer proved.
United will have a battle on their hands to land Lukaku but he is a quality player and one worth fighting for, particularly as he has made no secret of his desire to leave Merseyside.
