Nemanja Vidic has insisted that Manchester United will not be distracted from their own development when Pep Guardiola takes over at Manchester City.
City confirmed earlier this season that Guardiola, currently manager of Bayern Munich, will replace Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad at the end of the campaign.
Meanwhile, Man United are clinging on in the race to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season and there has been widespread speculation surrounding Louis van Gaal’s future at Old Trafford. Vidic, who won a host of trophies during his playing days at United, believes the club will focus on themselves.
“I believe he wants to be part of the best league in the world,” Vidic said.
”All top players and the managers want to be part of English football. That’s great for the players, the fans and for everyone who loves English football, but we only look at ourselves and we are not really focusing on what City does.
“That was my mentality at United and what I learned when I was there. We always look at ourselves and try to make the best possible situation from our capabilities.”
While it is important that United do focus on getting back to the top, it is hard not to be envious of Guardiola’s appointment at City.
After all, he is widely regarded to be the best manager in world football. That being said, City have been wildly inconsistent this season and Guardiola will have a tough job on his hands when he does take the reigns there.
