Shaw, 20, has spent the majority of this season on the sidelines after suffering a double leg break against PSV Eindhoven in September but is now taking a major step in his rehabilitation.
Returning to training at the start of April means Shaw is in with a chance of playing for Man United before the end of the 2015/16 season, although I’d personally rather he didn’t, and it’s fantastic to hear he’s about to return to the training pitch.
“Luke Shaw is back on the training pitch on Monday with the physio,” van Gaal told reporters this afternoon.
At every stage so far of his recovery, I’ve been impressed with how quickly Shaw has progressed. He was walking without crutches less than two months after the actual injury in Eindhoven and has been working on his cardio fitness and leg strength for some time now.
Returning to the pitch will be a big moment for Shaw as well as it has been a long, hard season but looking ahead he’ll be positive about next year. Well done Luke and welcome back.
