Manchester United chief scout Jim Lawlor has been scouting Pachuca winger Hirving Lozano, according to their club president Jesus Martinez.
Lozano, 20, has scored six goals in the Mexican League this year for Pachuca and that may well have been in front of Lawlor, a man who has experience with scouting in Mexico having watched Javier Hernandez prior to him joining.
Speaking about interest in Lozano, Martinez admitted he’d love it if the Mexican international moved to Old Trafford.
“[The chief scout] has been coming here to do special reports on our players, but especially Chucky,” Martinez told AS in Mexico.
“We would love it if he had to go that it would be to a team like Manchester United or Porto.”
The success of signing Hernandez will always serve as a shining example of how much talent there is in the Mexican League and maybe Lozano is somebody who can follow in those footsteps.
It’s not a surprise to hear Martinez mentioning FC Porto by name either because Hector Herrera join them from Pachuca, so he’s another Mexican export success story.
Whether United follow up on Lozano remains to be seen over the course of the season but one thing is for sure – Martinez would welcome any interested from us.
