Ashley Young returns with strong performance for U21s in 1-1 Chelsea draw

Ashley Young made a return to action with Manchester United’s U21s on Monday night in their 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

The 30-year-old played in an odd Man United team which had no less than seven defenders and was in a more attacking role than he usually is for the first-team but he was nevertheless impressive.

With Marcos Rojo completely out of touch against Everton on Sunday, Louis van Gaal may well look towards Young (hopefully he won’t after Timothy Fosu-Mensah‘s cameo) for this weekend’s game against Tottenham Hotspur.

Here’s a few thoughts from some United fans who watched the U21s in action:

Young’s not a barnstorming, match-winning winger but he’s a good player to have in your squad and I think he’ll have a part to play between now and the end of the season.

He’s certainly got good memories of White Hart Lane having scored a brace there back in 2013 and depending on how United set up, I wouldn’t be too surprised to see him get some minutes.
