The Frenchman scored his 13th goal of the season seven minutes into the second half after he slotted Timothy Fosu-Mensah‘s cross past Joel Robles in the Everton goal.
Man United are heading into a tough fixture against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane next week, only one point behind fourth placed Manchester City in the Premier League, but with Martial in the side Mata knows we’ll offer a threat in attack.
“Since day one that I have trained with him, I have felt that this guy has something special,” Mata said after the 1-0 win over Everton.
“He has everything to succeed in football at this club. He is quick, has goals, he can beat players one on one and he understands football.
“I enjoy playing with him because we understand each other and we are very happy with him. He is having a fantastic season and hopefully he scores many more goals.”
That something special has made Martial one of the best strikers in the Premier League less than a year since making his big move from AS Monaco and at the age of just 20. He’s taken everything in his stride so far and his goal against Everton today was the latest important goal he’s scored and it certainly won’t be his last.
Rarely does a player excel so quickly but Martial exudes confidence and is only getting better with every game that he plays. Mata is spot on – he is special and United are lucky to have him. I can’t wait to see how good he can be in another year or two.
