Manchester United’s Potential XI vs Spurs: Wayne Rooney starts

by Ben Topliss

Wayne Rooney is closing in on a return to full fitness following injury and he has an outside chance of starting in Manchester United’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

Rooney has been sidelined since February having suffered knee ligament damage but he will be hoping to get a full week’s worth of training under his belt before the game on Sunday.

Marcus Rashford has impressed in the first team recently but Louis van Gaal has often gone on record to say that Rooney will always play when fit:

There have been question marks raised about Rooney’s long-term future in the starting XI for both United and England and he will be looking to prove his doubters wrong.

Elsewhere, Timothy Fosu-Mensah is in with a shout of starting against Spurs having impressed from the substitute’s bench against Everton last time out.

Marcos Rojo, the man Fosu-Mensah replaced, was disappointing at Old Trafford and it would be no surprise to see him dropped.
