Louis van Gaal has admitted that Romelu Lukaku could be a “candidate” for Manchester United to sign this summer.
Lukaku has enjoyed a superb campaign for Everton this season, scoring 25 goals in all competitions.
The Belgian recently claimed that he is looking to make the “next step” in his career and play in the Champions League and van Gaal hinted Lukaku could be on Man United’s radar.
When asked about Lukaku prior to United’s clash against Everton on Sunday, van Gaal said: “He is very interesting.
“When you score a lot of goals, you are always a potential candidate for clubs. Football is like that. When you look at scoring goals and making assists, he (Lukaku) does that at the highest level in the Premier League. But I think every club in the world is comparing strikers.”
Marcus Rashford has impressed in the first team recently but he cannot be expected to produce on a consistent basis given his age and relative inexperience.
It is clear that United need to add quality depth up top and Lukaku would provide that, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic is also said to be in the club’s thinking. It should be an interesting summer in terms of incomings and outgoings at Old Trafford.
