Ian Wright: Get rid of Darmian and Rojo, play the youngsters

by Tanveer Arayan

Ian Wright believes Manchester United should bin Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian in favour of Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Luke Shaw when all of them are available.

In a dull season, the emergence of lots of Man United youngsters has been a shining light for both the club and fans.

The most recent player to break through is Timothy Fosu-Mensah and his 45 minute cameo against Everton was so much better than Rojo’s performance and discussing United’s youngsters, Wright thinks that is where our focus should be.

“I believe people like Darmian and Rojo, for me, get them out,” Wright told The Sun.

“I’d play Fosu-Mensah on the right and Jackson on the left, Luke Shaw to come back.

“Now, put the faith in the youngsters.”

While I agree that the youngsters are the way forward, simply dismissing Darmian would be doing him a disservice after what was an excellent start to the season. I’d be happy to see Rojo leave this summer but as for Darmian, I think he’s got more to offer.

The good thing for United is that it looks like we have genuine options at full-back now. Fosu-Mensah is going to be a top player and Borthwick-Jackson has also really impressed me, not to mention Shaw who we have had to do without for the majority of the season.

United have gone through so much change over the last few years but heading into the summer, it’s likely to be another one which brings a swathe of change at Old Trafford.
