Louis van Gaal has refused to comment on rumours he rejected a chance to return to the Dutch FA as their newly-created technical director.
Reports this week suggested that the Dutch FA wanted van Gaal to oversee a rebuilding of the national team next season.
The news came amid speculation that van Gaal is set to be replaced by Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford in the summer. However, the veteran coach was giving nothing away when asked about the subject.
“I don’t want to respond to these type of questions because what I discuss with the federation has to be between them and me,” he said.
“It is the same as what I discuss with the board.”
The situation with van Gaal’s future is a precarious one.
There is a widespread belief that Mourinho is virtually guaranteed to become the next United manager but van Gaal seems defiant. The hope is that the scrutiny does not affect United’s run-in as they face a fight to reach the top four of the Premier League and progress in the FA Cup.
