Quinton Fortune: Timothy Fosu-Mensah is ‘unbelievable’

Former Manchester United midfielder Quinton Fortune has praised the “unbelievable” Timothy Fosu-Mensah following his performances for Louis van Gaal’s side this season.

Fosu-Mensah made his debut for the club in February in the win over Arsenal before completing the full 90 minutes against Watford soon after.

The young Dutchman was particularly impressive in the 1-0 win over Everton last time out, setting up Anthony Martial’s winner while playing at right-back before switching to the heart of defence. Fortune was full of praise for Fosu-Mensah.

“He’s always looking to see where his man is, some defenders focus on the ball but he knows where both are,” Fortune said.

“He can play in a number of positions, he can play centre-back, right-back and in midfield. He’s unbelievable, it’s really what you want to see from a young defender. He’s done well in every game he has played for us.”

Fosu-Mensah is quick, powerful and sound technically. He has all the attributes needed to become a top player and he has proven that he can be relied upon already despite being just 18 years old.

This has been a season to forget for United fans but the performances from players such as Fosu-Mensah have provided cause for optimism.
