Yuto Nagatomo’s agent has revealed Manchester United tried to sign the Inter Milan full-back on the last day of the winter transfer window.
Man United were in the market for a right-back as the transfer window drew to a close and Arsenal’s Mathieu Debuchy was reportedly blocked from moving to Old Trafford by Arsene Wenger.
Nagatomo’s agent, Federico Pastorello, admitted that United were also looking at his client. However, Pastorello insisted that Nagatomo wants to sign a new contract at Inter.
“I worked for Inter on this case, as I get on well with Roberto – the player’s agent – having brought him to Italy together,” Pastorello said.
“The announcement will be made shortly. He could have ended up in the Bundesliga, for more money. We’re talking a multi-year deal. In January, he could have gone to United, during the last day of the transfer window.”
Players such as Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Timothy Fosu-Mensah, too, came into the fold and they have all been excellent. Their displays show that placing faith in youngsters rather than signing short-term fixes can pay off.
