Like Martial at AS Monaco before he joined Manchester United, Ibrahimovic’s exploits in France have not gone unnoticed and the Swedish striker is now out of contract with Paris St.Germain this summer.
Ibrahimovic might be the ripe old age of 34 but he’ll have no shortage of suitors were he to move and Martial would clearly be happy to have him at Old Trafford.
“It would be nice to play with him,” he told Telefoot.
“He is an extraordinary player and he continues to prove it despite his age.”
Louis van Gaal has already said he thinks Ibrahimovic is too old but there’s every chance he won’t be manager next season. That being said, it does raise the question as to whether Zlatan’s arrival could curtail the progress of somebody like Marcus Rashford.
It’s a delicate balance United have to find this summer because the reason the Class of ’92 was so successful is that it mixed youth with world class players in equal measure and we’re in need of the latter in this squad.
A top drawer striker like Ibrahimovic may well compliment the youth of Martial and Rashford and both of them could certainly learn from him. However, he’d effectively command a starting position and we’ve still got Wayne Rooney in the team as well, so there’s reasons to argue against any potential move as well.
It will be interesting to see what United do this summer but Ibrahimovic is more than likely going to be available if we wanted to make a move.
