Wayne Rooney made his return from injury for Manchester United in tonight’s U21s game against Middlesbrough at Old Trafford.
The 30-year-old got some much needed game time under his belt in what is the next big step towards him returning to action for Man United in the Premier League.
Rooney’s injury was terribly timed because after an altogether poor season he started 2016 in very good goalscoring form but that was swiftly cut short. In his absence, Marcus Rashford has taken centre stage but having him available might prove to be a good thing.
As well as Rooney, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Phil Jones continued their return from injuries by getting some more minutes under their belt.
Louis van Gaal was also in attendance at Old Trafford tonight as well as Nicky Butt and Ryan Giggs.
