Manchester United have joined the clubs interested in Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas – report

Manchester United have joined Manchester City, Southampton and Chelsea in the race to sign Roma defender Kostas Manolas, according to MailOnline.

Manolas signed for Roma from Olympiacos in 2014 for £12m and he has impressed in Italy following some good performances.

Jose Mourinho was reportedly interested in taking the Greek international to Chelsea last year but a move never materialised.

Mourinho has been strongly linked with a move to Man United in the event of Louis van Gaal’s departure and the rumours surrounding Manolas would suggest that the Portuguese is working on transfers ahead of a switch to Old Trafford.

Daley Blind and Chris Smalling have established a solid partnership for United this season but it is clear that a top quality central defender is needed to take the team to the next level.

As well as Manolas, United have been linked with players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Renato Sanches and John Stones.
