Alan Shearer has praised David de Gea following Manchester United’s 2-1 win over West Ham United in the FA Cup on Wednesday.
However, a late strike from West Ham’s James Tomkins set up a nervy finish and De Gea made a number of excellent saves to keep United’s opponents from taking the game to extra-time. Shearer singled out De Gea for praise following the match.
“When they [West Ham] got that goal from Tomkins the whole place came alive and there was much more energy,” Shearer said.
“De Gea, the number of made saves he made in this game, particularly with his left foot, one from a corner and one late on – they were fantastic saves.”
It is not the first time De Gea has got United out of trouble this season and it is likely that it won’t be the last.
The Spaniard has established himself as the Premier League’s best goalkeeper this season and there is an argument that he is currently the best in the world. If United are to win the Cup, De Gea will have a big say.
