Wolfsburg defender Naldo has revealed he is “honoured” by rumoured interest from Manchester United but insisted that he is happy in Germany.
The centre-back made the claims after reports in Kicker suggested that Man United were keeping tabs on him.
Naldo scored twice in his side’s 3-2 win against United earlier this season in the Champions League and Louis van Gaal was said to be impressed by the performance. However, the Brazilian insisted he is focused on Wolfsburg.
“Manchester United is a great club and I’m honoured by the interest,” Naldo said earlier this week.
“However I’m fine and I feel at ease here.”
United seem to be on the lookout for defenders ahead of the summer transfer window, with Aymeric Laporte and John Stones also linked with moves to Old Trafford, but Naldo is certainly not a spring chicken as at 33 he is coming towards the end of his career. Is that the sort of partner we need for Chris Smalling?
Van Gaal’s side haven’t always been convincing from a defensive point of view this term and it is clear that they need to bolster their ranks. However, supporters will be hoping any new players do not stunt the development of youngsters such as the impressive Timothy Fosu-Mensah.
