Manchester United sent scouts to watch young midfielder Renato Sanches in Benfica’s Champions League clash against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, according to MailOnline.
Representatives from Arsenal were also in attendance as the 18-year-old Portuguese completed 90 minutes against Bayern in a game he once again looked more than comfortable. On the biggest stage, that’s a real compliment for somebody who is so young and raw still.
Benfica were knocked out of the Champions League after a 2-2 draw at the Estadio da Luz meant they lost 3-2 on aggregate but it doesn’t take away from how impressive Sanches was over the two legs.
Man United scouts have now watched Sanches on a number of occasions this term, recently seeing him named man of the match following a 2-1 win at Academica last week, and are said to be preparing a move for the youngster in the summer worth an initial £31m with £15m in add-ons.
If the club did manage to add Sanches to their ranks, they would arguably possess three of the most talented young players in the world in him, Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial. It will be interesting to see how the situation pans out.
