Everton interested in signing Manchester United’s Michael Carrick – report

by Tanveer Arayan

Everton manager Roberto Martinez wants to sign Michael Carrick in the summer if Manchester United do not offer the veteran midfielder a new contract, according to the Guardian.

Carrick’s current contract at Man United expires at the end of the season and he is yet to be offered a new deal.

Everton, along with several other Premier League clubs, are said to be on alert as Martinez believes Carrick could ease the burden in midfield for his side.

Carrick has often been used by Louis van Gaal this season when fit and it is therefore confusing why he hasn’t been offered a new deal.

The 34-year-old is undoubtedly coming to the end of his career but he has shown this season that he can still be a class act in the middle of the park.

United do not have many experienced players in the squad and it would surely be worth considering keeping Carrick on for another campaign.
